What do you get if you mash up Batman, Twilight and Glee (minus the singing) in animated form? Gotham High. This 2009 animated series never saw the light of day, but these concept images have been made available to us. Had this show aired, I'm certain it would've set back Batman twenty years, destroying everything Batman has accomplished to date.

Not sure why I keep seeing more-and-more superhero shoes emerging on the market, not that I'm complaining, but I found these custom Batman and Robin Nike's I'd really like to get my hands on. What I like about these designs is the level of "personality" it captures, especially Robin's design, really capturing the elements of Robin. You can buy them here for £500.00. That translates to about $643.00!

Bobby C?

I stumbled upon this sculptor earlier today, and was blown away at his sculpting accuracy. His work surpasses the best celebrity wax statue I've ever seen. Recreating exact copies in sculpt form, he goes by the handle, "Bobby C" who seems to be a legend within online prop making forums. This guy must have a hand in Hollywood somewhere, I'm sure of it. I find minimalistic art intriguing for two reasons. One, they are iconic enough to only be recognized even if at a glance. Two, it tells a story with very little on the canvas. Superhero minimalistic art demonstrates how ingrained they are into our culture. At quick glance... you'll get it. But take a closer look.

Batman: Arkham City Screenshots!

The anticipated sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum titled "Batman: Arkham City" has released a plethora of screen shots. Rocksteady Studios and WB Interactive provided a good mix of cinematic shots and actual game play. Batman: Arkham Asylum's greatest strength was the level of detail they included in the game. You don't have to be a die hard Batfan to understand the "who's-who" references, but they included some great references that only comic readers would smile at, namely myself. With an updated Harley design along with new villains, I can already tell this game is going to be top-notch with detail. I can't express enough how excited I am about this game, Fall 2011 can't arrive soon enough! I'll be first in line if they do another midnight release.

Movie Review - Batman: Under the Red Hood

"Batman: Under The Red Hood", based on Judd Winick and Doug Mahnke's comic book series "The Red Hood", tells the tale of Jason Todd, his return from death and the havoc he reeks on Gotham City as a hero that punishes villains with deadly consequences. In short, he's a Batman that kills people.

This was a fairly good adaptation from the comic book series, staying true to the nature of the story. I'm actually surprised at how dark they made this film. However, DC Entertainment been upping the maturity level of their animated films recently, which gives the animators more elbow room for more compellingly violent scenes and stories. Right off the bat, you see Jason being beaten to death by the Joker. From there the story line treads lightly until the end of the film when Red Hood and Batman face-off. The final scene had me sitting on the edge of my seat because Batman was posed with a great question, challenging his own personal morals and beliefs.

A few things the movie could've improved on. It would've been more effective to see exactly how Jason was captured by the Joker. In the comics, it was a much more elaborate plan put together by the Joker with a strong emotional twist, rather than a mishap of chance as explained during the film. Also, as much as I like Nightwing, it would've been great to include Tim Drake in some way. He's not even referenced by name.

Overall, good film, highly recommended for DCU fans. The more they continue to stay true to the source material, the better these films get.

The Joker from Joker

Inspired by the graphic novel titled "Joker" written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Lee Bermejo, is the latest DC Direct black and white statue of the Joker. This is one of my favorite Joker designs. Mistakenly modeled after Heath Ledger's Joker, it was actually the other way around. The graphic novel was written and illustrated five years before Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight was released. The Joker bares an eerie resemblance to the razor-lipped Heath Ledger. This is a definite buy for me!

Christopher Nolan's third Batman film to begin shooting in April!

Woohoo! At a premiere for Nolan's latest film, Inception, Michael Caine is asked by a red carpet interviewer about any details regarding the next Batman film. Looks like shooting starts in April! Let's hope it's not an early April Fool's joke.

Superman/Batman: Apocalypse

September 28, 2010 is the expected release date for WB Entertainment's newest DC animated movie, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse. Below is the cover art thanks to Supermanhomepage.com. Much like Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse will be based of the comic counterpart put together by Jeph Loeb and the late Michael Turner. I'm really impressed with the cover art, and I'm hoping the film will faithfully follow the original story arc as the image below suggests. More importantly, I'd like to see Kevin Conroy and Tim Daly reprise their roles as Batman and Superman respectively.

Batman: City of Scars

If you have half-an-hour to spare, this fanfilm called Batman: City of Scars is definitely worth checking out. This film was put together by Aaron Schoenke for $27k with of shooting time of 21 days. This is one of the best fan-made movie shorts I've seen yet!

A second wave of Batman Arkham Asylum figures have officially been announced! As awesome as they look, and with the popularity and demand for this figure series, why the hell are they still going with the two tone Batman cape color?

Batman The Brave and the Bold - The Video Game

"Batman: The Brave and the Bold" is WB's latest animated incarnation airing on Cartoon Network that combines a fun campy Batman that your kids can watch, intertwined with adventures accurately portraying past and current comic continuity. At first glance, the cartoon looks like a cuddly cartoon with cute animation. Taking a closer look, you'll find an abundant amount of detail that the writers manage to make fun for all ages. It only seemed liked a matter of time that they turned this into a video game.

Interactive Entertainment, on behalf of DC Comics, announces Batman: The Brave and the Bold - the Videogame, an action-adventure videogame based on the popular animated series, available this Autumn for Wii™ and Nintendo DS™. In the game, fans play alongside Batman and many of his allies in the DC Universe to take on dozens of popular villains."

If the video game developers manage to make the game as fun as the show, and cleverly make the game challenging like the Lego games... it looks like I'll be buying a Nintendo Wii or DS!

Mark Hamill retiring his voice as the Joker

In an interview with Mark Hamill and IGN, Mark Hamill discusses his retirement from voicing our favorite clown prince of crime, the Joker. It's safe to say that Batman: The Animated Series spawned a definitive generation of Batman, towing fans of all kind to praise the breakthrough performance Bruce Timm, Paul Dini and Andrea Romano crafted, including the fantastic voice talent of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill. It's not uncommon to hear Batman fans using BTAS as the standard to all other visions of Batman. It's sad to hear Hamill will be retiring his Joker voice, but it's exciting to know he'll be going out with a bang for the second video game installment of Batman: Arkham Asylum. The storyline was compelling enough to keep Hamill onboard, considering he wanted to retire the Joker with the first game.

"Mark Hamill, known as both Luke Skywalker and one of the most revered voices of the Joker, says he'll be hanging up his acid-squirting flower after completing Batman: Arkham Asylum 2. In an IGN interview, the veteran actor says he was reluctant to return to the role for the original Arkham, and even more so for its sequel. "This will be my last, there's no question about that," he said. "But it's the last hurrah."
