Oh reality television! Entertaining yet so devoid of intellectual compelling content unless you're watching news or a documentary. If you've heard the saying "television rots your brain," reality television is the poster child for that statement. Knowing this, we still fall victim to these guilty pleasures. As it stands, my favorite reality shows are Cops and Judge Judy. Why you ask? Because no other show captures the human condition of humility like Cops and Judge Judy. Here, you get to see grown adults act like little children.

As a long time eBay user, I've always wondered what the face of eBay scammers look like. In this clip, you'll see an eBay scammer get torn to shreds by Judge Judy.

SDCC: San Diego Comic Con 2009 Update

Looks like San Diego Comic Con 09 has released their Wednesday and Thursday line-up of events. Over 12 days left until Comic Con! Navigating the website, I'm surprised to see a long list of available hotels through Travel Planners. Considering SDCC has been sold out for months, this leads me to believe a few things: One,people are backing out due to the recession, or two, there will be an abundance of scalp tickets. I sure hope it's not the latter.

Justin Timberlake as the Green Lantern? Really?

According to Ain't It Cool News:


"Got an unconfirmed rumor that at Leavesden Studios - there's been some Warner Bros. screen testing on GREEN LANTERN and that Justin Timberlake was suiting up for the test. That does not mean that JT is going to be Hal Jordan, but just that he's one of the guys that they've been seriously considering for the role of our Emerald Knight."

Don't get me wrong, I thought he had some good acting chops in Alpha Dog and was pretty hilarious on Saturday Night Live, but Justin Timberlake as the Green Lantern? I don't think Green Lantern fans will take too kindly to "Mr. Mother Lover Dick In-A-Box" playing Sector 2814.1's Emerald Knight. I'm not sure the kid fits the bill for this one. It could be worse... "cough-Shia Labeouf-cough!"

Lost on VHS?

If you're a fan of Lost, chances are you already know about this box set titled "Lost Season 5 - The Dharma Initiation Kit." Suggested retail price for this set will cost about $134.00 and will include the following: Entire fifth season presented on five BD-50 Blu-ray discs, a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack, featurettes and deleted scenes.

I'm sure there will be a ton of Dharma related items included to entice hardcore Lost fans. The one that's most eye-catching is the Dharma Initiative: Orientation VHS tape. When's the last time you bought a VHS tape? Lost fans will either have to dig out that old VHS player from the garage or buy a cheap VHS player from eBay.

Hot Toys Dark Knight! Not done yet!

Just when I thought I was done with the Dark Knight Hot Toys line. What a great preview shot! I'm assuming this version will have some uber improvements like the lastest Joker Hot Toys (yet to be released). Hell, the collapsible sticky gun is worth it alone. I'll be first in line to pre-order this bad boy!

Whatever Happened to the Capped Crusader?

In the midst of Batman's death, the mini-storyline titled "Whatever Happened to the Capped Crusader?" is a two-part series featured in Batman #686 and Detective Comics #853. Essentially, this story tells the tale of Batman observing his own funeral.

What's interesting is who's in attendance for Batman's viewing, and the speeches given about Batman, each having their own take on how Batman died. The guest list of villains and heroes is pretty extensive. The majority of them being core characters such as Joker, Ivy, Riddler, Commissioner Gordon, Azrael, etc. The art work is fantastic, paying homage to several influential artists that've graced the lineage of Batman's history.

The story is a roller coaster of imations, combined with som head scratching moments. What I found to be the most touching in this two part series is Batman's encounter with his mother, Martha Wayne. Notice how I didn't say Bruce Wayne's encounter with his Mom? On full Batman garb, Batman is having a discussion with his Mom on the happier moments in his life.

Batman's death is being handled much more dynamically than I originally thought they were going to write it. Although it's inevitable that Bruce Wayne will return, they don't give you the impression that he will magically appear, and Bruce's absence is making GOtham City an interesting place to be. Especially for Nightwing!

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe (PS3)

When news of this game was first released last year, I scratched my head and wondered why such an unlikely pair was being put together in a video game. As more information about the game was released and more game play videos were revealed, I grew a bit excited for the game. When it came down to the release date, I ended up getting cold feet, thinking this game could be nothing more than a marketing scheme to brand flagship characters from Mortal Kombat and DC Comics. Boy was I wrong!

Alas, for the better part of my 4th of July Sunday afternoon, I played Mortal Kombat Vs. The DC Universe. I must say that I was thoroughly impressed, granted I've only played the game for less than a day.

The game play, the animation and controls were really smooth and easy to handle. Within an hour, I was already doing combos and special moves with the majority of the DC characters, I must say I've gotten pretty good with Batman and Flash. Already being familiar with most of the Mortal Kombat characters, I concentrated on playing and studying the DC side of the game. Kudo's to the game developers, they did a great job on capturing and staying true to the essentials of all the DC characters. Each character and their respective DC character's were unique and well thought out to complement their comic book counterparts.

What I found very impressive is the combat versatility and the level of interaction the stages allow. In addition to the normal Mortal Kombat controls, they've integrated "Klose Kombat" and "Freefall Kombat." When engaged in Klose Kombat, the characters link like wrestlers while the camera zooms-in. Here you'll get up-close-and-personal with some very brutal strikes without the complexities of combos. You simply press any strike button to hit. Your opponent must match 1 of 4 buttons you press to counter the attack. "Freefall Kombat" utilizes the environment. Essentially, you are able to knock your opponent off the stage onto another stage. In between this transition, you are engaged in combat, in the same manner as "Klose Kombat."


Overall, this game gets two thumbs up! I'm glad to see that they didn't rely heavily on the DC Comics gimick, rather, actually producing a well thought out game while innovating traditional video game combat in the process. I've only gotten the chance to dive into the practice and arcade modes. Next on my list will be playing online.

Superman Batman: Public Enemies finally has a release date!

It's about time! As much as I enjoy the campy tongue-in-check Batman: The Brave and the Bold (as it's clearly catered for kids), I'm ready for some PG-13 action! The feature length film will be based on the comics series put together by Ed McGuiness and Jeph Loeb.

Transformers Box Office Blow Out?

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: How in the world did a film that's currently rated at 20% on Rotten Tomatoes gross over two hundred million ($201.2 million) over the five day opening week? I knew this summer movie was going to be a hit, but I never thought it would nip at the heels of The Dark Knight which grossed 203.8 million, and The Dark Knight was a great movie. I have yet to see this movie for myself so maybe I shouldn't be so quick to judge, but I find this awfully surprising. Let's see how its sophomore week at the box office does.

RIP Michael Jackson: August 1958 - June 2009

Yesterday was a sad day for the music industry as Michal Jackson died from a heart attack yesterday afternoon. Despite all the weirdness that surrounded his later years in life, you can't deny that he was a worldwide inspiration for the masses, truly being the voice of a generation alongside musical artists such as the Beatles and Elvis Presley. Growing-up in the eighties, Michal Jackson was the biggest musical icon that I've ever known. Who didn't want to put on a single white glove and wear that zippered red leather jacket. Or move with a certain swagger when Billy Jean played on the radio. Michael "The King of Pop" Jackson, you will be missed.

One thing I found very interesting about his unexpected death was how quickly it flew through the social media space. I didn't hear it from any of the major news networks, rather, I found out about the sad news via Twitter and Facebook. Interesting to see how social media has really made an impact, and how quickly information can spread via word-of-mouth through the Internets. It hasn't been twenty-four hours yet since the announcement of his death and controversy is already brewing out in cyberspace. Hell, my blog post is miles behind the rest of the blogosphere.
